In a 2025 survey to Chamber membership, respondents reported that Skilled Trade positions such as “Heavy Equipment Mechanic”, “Water and Sewer Technician”, “Skilled Labor”, “Electrician”, “Carpenter”, “Maintenance”, “Welder”, “Skilled Assembly”, “Broadband technician”, “Automotive Mechanic”, “Marine Mechanic”, “Technician”, ”Industrial Electrician”, “Assembler”, “ Material Handler”, “Wastewater Plant Operator” and “Lineman”.
If you’d like to pursue a Skilled Trade career in Bay County, here are the minimum Training/Education and Skills/Experience requirements Chamber Members recommended for such jobs:
Training/Education
- A short-term workforce/vocational credential or certificate from postsecondary institutions like Tom P. Haney Technical College or Gulf Coast State College.
- CareerSource Florida’s Master Credentials List—which lists state-approved degree and non-degree credentials of value that prepare Floridians for in-demand occupations.
- High School Diploma Bay District Schools.
- On-the-Job Training or Certifications.
After completing a certificate or degree program, entities like the state of Florida or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration may require some Skilled Trade jobs to obtain licensure for work:
- Licensed Electrician / Electrical Contractor
- Licensed Mechanical (HVAC)
- Licensed Contractor
- Licensed Plumber
- OSHA requires powered industrial truck (i.e., forklift) operators to be trained and certified by their organizations
