SUMMARY:Lynn Haven Announces Grand Opening of Rails to Trails
DESCRIPTION:The City of Lynn Haven is excited to announce the Grand Opening and ribbon cutting ceremony date for the Rails-to-Trails project will be September 8\, 2023\, at 10 AM. Due to limited parking at the event site\, parking and shuttle services will be available at Palo Alto Church of Christ at 3119 U.S. 231\, Panama City\, FL 32405 from 9 AM-11:30 AM. \n\n\n\nAlong with the ribbon cutting\, a trailhead dedication ceremony will be held to honor and name the second trailhead after Ray Wishart\, a longtime Lynn Haven resident and Mosley High School teacher who was a frequent cyclist was struck by a semi-truck in 2016 that ended his life. The first trailhead was named after Frances Wittkopf\, a former city commissioner in 2019. \n\n\n\nIn collaboration with FDOT’s Sun Trail Program and local non-profit Friends of Bay County Trails\, the city created a multi-use public trail that extends a 12-foot-wide asphalt path over three miles along the old railroad tracks from SR-390 and Georgia Avenue to U.S. Highway 231. Rails- to-Trails will provide pedestrians and non-motorized transportation (omitting electric wheelchairs)\, including\, but not limited to\, bicycles\, roller skates\, scooters\, and running shoes. The path includes amenities such as benches\, multi-station fountains\, bicycle repair stations\, and lighting poles. The trail operates seven days a week from dawn to dusk. \n\n\n\nThis project ties into the statewide\, shared use\, nonmotorized SUN Trails Program which aims to connect trails across Florida. To fulfill the sizeable vision for the Lynn Haven Rails-to-Trails project\, its construction was carried out in two phases. First\, in 2015\, the city secured a grant of $268\,000 for the project’s first phase. It funded the preliminary engineering and design of the trail and was approved for phase two in 2018. DESCRIPTION:The fair is taking place from October 3-7 at the Bay County Fairgrounds in Panama City. \n\n\n\nIt’s the first time the fairgrounds have hosted the event since Hurricane Michael five years ago. \n\n\n\nThere will be a car show\, arts and crafts\, live animals\, activities and much more. \n\n\n\n“We’re going to have a lot of events going on here. Rides\, Ferris wheels\, other rides\, we’ll have cotton candy\, of course\, the police officers\, all sorts of food will be here\, the vendors will be here\, and a lot of rides for the children also\,” said Tony Vincent\, General Manager of the fair. \n\n\n\nOfficials want attendees to know that there will be some changes when it comes to getting into the fair. \n\n\n\nThere will be no weapons of any kind allowed at the fairgrounds. \n\n\n\nOfficials say there will be metal detectors at the front gates. \n\n\n\nAnyone wishing to enter must pass through the security check in order to gain admission. \n\n\n\n“Don’t bring a knife\, and don’t bring a gun\, and use common sense. DESCRIPTION:The Central Panhandle Association of Realtors® (CPAR) is pleased to announce our annual Roy Crecelius Golf Tournament. On October 6\, 2023\, the tournament will be held at Panama Country Club. \nAll proceeds of the tournament will benefit the Friends of Clifford Chester Sims Veterans Home & the Family Service Agency of Bay County. Clifford C. Sims Veterans Home is a gold seal award recipient\, caring for the daily needs of our elderly local veterans. The Family Service Agency of Bay County provides support and resources to homeless families and families in need throughout the Bay County Area. \nAttendees will enjoy an incredibly fun golf game\, prizes\, raffles\, breakfast\, lunch\, a bloody mary bar & After Party.  On-site registration and breakfast will begin at 8 am\, with a shotgun start at 9 am. There will be awards for 1st\, 2nd & 3rd place\, closest to the pin\, longest drive & more! \nRegistration is open now and CPAR is seeking both golf teams and sponsors for the event. In 2022\, this tournament raised $20\,000 for Sims Veterans Home and it is CPAR’s goal to raise even more in 2023!
