SUMMARY:Coast Guard Community Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:On October 26\, an official Coast Guard Community Ceremony will be held at the Panama City Marina (1 Harrison Ave\, Panama City) at 1 p.m. Coast Guard Commandant\, Adm. Linda Fagan is scheduled to bestow this honor to Bay County. The community is invited to celebrate this historic moment in Bay County. \n\n\n\nIn June of last year\, the Bay County Chamber applied to designate Bay County as a Coast Guard Community. The application package included: \n\n\n\n– Letters of support from each of our municipalities as well as the county– Letter from our federal and state elected officials\, including a letter from Congressman Dunn– Letters from other community stakeholders– Pages of specific examples of this community support Coast Guard and military families. \n\n\n\nThe application goes through a lengthy approval process\, including a review by Congress and the Commandant of the US Coast Guard. In August of 2023\, Bay County was official approved as a Coast Guard Community. \n\n\n\nThe Coast Guard City program was established by Congress in 1998 to recognize the support local governments and communities provide to Coast Guard members and their families. There are currently 30 Coast Guard Cities nationwide. \n\n\n\nMore information about Coast Guard cities can be found at https://www.uscg.mil/Community/cities/.
